His hips sway seductively as his pale form trots across the meadow. “Brings back memories.” He grunts, unappreciative at the voice in his head. Such an asshole thing to say. “You love having us around.” Ha! Yeah, keep dreaming. Shaking his head, Quentin continues on, ignoring his invisible companions for the time being. He wouldn't be able to for long, they would make sure of that, but for now, he'd have a little bit of peace.

His absence from these lands hadn't been noticed, though honestly, he had the slightest idea if that was true or not. Q had been dragged away by those meddling voices, calling him. Begging him, even. It was hard to ignore their call, even for someone as stubborn and opinionated as he was. “Always a pleaser you are.” In more ways than one. He grins at the thought as a scoff of disgust echos in his head. Sure, those voices gave him hell sometimes, but the stallion was more than capable of returning the favor.

The winged equine halts for a moment, his teal colored tail whipping at his flank. From what he can tell, there's no one nearby. The meadow is quiet for now, and upon realizing this, Q sighs in relief. His journey to nowhere had been exhausting and pointless. He'd been dragged away just to prove that they could manipulate him. The voices were getting worse, stronger, more opinionated and eager to screw with his mind. Not that they hadn't been before....

Quentin closes his hazel eyes, nostrils flaring as a stray breeze brings in the scent of thistles and grass. The sound of the river is nearby as well, though he has no interest in it for the time being. Instead, he allows the silence to envelop him. The feminine stud can't remember the last time that he had pure silence. Another sigh escapes him. For now, he's content with remaining here, as long as those damn voices stay content. It was a hard thing to do, please something invisible, something unreal. Granted, Q had no idea of that, but still, it remained true.

They were right though, he did enjoy their company sometimes. Especially when he was alone. He'd gone crazy by now if it weren't for them. “Well, crazier.” He snorts at the thought, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Another truth. The Warmblood opens his eyes and walks on. He has nowhere to go, nor does he have any desire to go anywhere in particular. There was nothing out there for him at the moment, nothing calling to him.

Helovia, the word hummed through her mind, as her slender limbs took her across the terrain. There was no hurry to her motions now, no desperation to get somewhere - she was here now, Dramyrth was not ill anymore (quite the opposite), she could return to her curious habit of simply exploring the lands that were Helovia.

The fact that she might never see her father or sister again weighed upon her mind, but at the same time, nothing was stopping them from coming to Helovia themselves. She was glad that they at least got to meet Dramyrth, and learn that death had taken Mirage at long last. She wondered if they cared, if they desired enough to ever visit her and Tandavi here - but then it she shoved those thoughts aside, for if she focussed too long on them she would only fill her mind with the negative notions that always danced just beneath the surface of her insecure, fragile hold on the present moment.

To help her focus on the moment, she called to an old friend - a dark little black soul-light, summoned by her magic, appeared suddenly. Dramyrth grumbled at its presence, but accepted that his bonded still enjoyed her little pseudo-bonds despite them being a pale misrepresentation of the true bond they shared. They are friends, Amaris insisted as the black soul danced between them. I could use some friends - so could you, she teased to the golden king, who huffed an icy breath at the black shadowy soul who kept trailing him.

So the pale steed with fairy wings adorning his shoulders was not the only one talking to voices within his head, for Amaris now had her bonded's grumbles and the spirit from the otherland's thoughts mixing with her own - it was what she needed, for in all the 'noise' and chaos stirred up by their presences, she was able to simply enjoy the moment, and not get caught up on things she could not change, that had passed. When her eyes alighted upon the teal and grey steed, she paused her steps and alerted the dragons she roamed with a quick mental nudge (though Dramyrth merely huffed and informed her in a bored tone that he already knew about a stallion being in the path ahead he just couldn't tell Amaris sooner because of their 'guest'). Suppressing the urge to roll her eyes at her bonded, the dragonmare merely smiled, before lowering her head slightly (an old, ingrained habit so as to appear less threatening, given she was half-dragon and all) and uttering a gentle call of greeting.

"Hello?" she murmured, wondering if she would be fortunate enough today to not scare someone away purely because of her appearance - time, as always, would tell.

"Ooooooh, the birds and the bees,
alight in the trees,
balance on blooms,
they flutter and zoom!

So alike are we three,
well, except for me,
who cannot fly or flit:
I’ve no wings to do it!
"

Playfully alternating from a canter to a trot, and occasionally bucking out for the sensation of her muscles pulling taught, the yearling revels in the warmth of the day, and the radiance of the Sun above. Adorned in her new gifts, given to her the prior week for her birthday, the sensation of the soft cloth of her cloak against her back as it flutters with her motions makes her feel almost as if she has wings, anyway; the thought occasionally sends her bolting forward at high speeds, before she leaps upwards and out, as if the wind might carry her onwards.

Her song resounds out over the clearing, blending with sound of birds and the rustle of grass and thistle against her body, and those fleeing the obviously approaching child. Her fearlessness is akin to foolishness, but it is endearing all the same, the youth is too enraptured by the formation of her flippant song to notice the others before she is almost upon them.

Thus, the third verse of her song is cut short, the first line not even reaching completion.

"But unlike me… Oh, whoa!" prancing to a stop, her citrine eyes widen in delight and shock at the absolutely wondrous sight before her. A fairy (even though he was much larger than she’d expect a fairy to be)! A real life fairy! And a dragon woman?! This summer freaking rules! With her gaze moving rapidly between them both, the cheerful, vivacious daughter of Arah and Tilney smiles her best smile, trying her best to keep her giddy giggles restrained behind politeness. All she really wants to do, though, is touch Quentin’s wings with her nose, and see if Amaris can breathe an element, like other dragons can. "Hello! I’m Maude! Who are you guys?"

Things were quiet. Too quiet. It wasn't something the pale stallion was used to. Tilting his head slightly, Quentin swiveled his snow colored ears around his skull, searching for the voices. They were only in his head, this was true, but the brute wasn't aware of this small fact. Didn't quite realize that he was, in fact, crazy. To him, those fairy beasts were merely an annoyance that, despite all the hell he received from them, kept him company on days like this. Days when he was alone and it was an obvious loneliness.

“Hello?” the Warmblood jumped in surprise, his bright eyes widening as he wheeled around to face the creature that had snuck upon him. How had he not noticed this large mare? Her wings were massive and scaled, though she wasn't unattractive. For a female.

The stallion laughed at his frightened reaction, the sound musical in the silence between them. “Oh darling, you frightened me! So quiet for a heavenly beast you are.” His voice held a higher pitch than what was deemed normal for most stallions. He grinned at the mare, not at all phased by her massive wingspan or her odd (yet absolutely stunning!) scaled addition. “I'm Quentin, dearie.” The fairy's wings flutter in welcome, his teal colored tail whipping his flank.

Looking from the mare to her companions, Quentin's eyes widened again. “Oh how lovely! Such a stunning creature!” He speaks of the golden dragon that follows the winged maiden. How lucky she was to have a visible beast for companionship. She wouldn't be seen as 'crazy' or 'a weirdo' he was guessing. Quentin never let things of that sort affect him, however. He was too carefree and loved being his flirtatious self too much.

Before he could comment again, the sound of song reached the stallion's ears. It wasn't long before another maiden joined their meeting. This one, unlike either Quentin or the dragon mare, was horned. Such lovely antlers they were too! She was young, it was obvious in her playful mannerism and her awe at seeing the two winged equines. Quentin giggled with glee, absolutely adoring the young mare's attention. “Oh hello, dear! I'm Quentin. A pleasure to meet you!” He gives Maude a playful bow, rising up to a grin stretching across his features.

“Such lovely ladies I've found myself to be surrounded by!” He chuckles, another lyric of music to fill the air. For now, the silence of his companions is forgotten. They make no attempt to make themselves known. Quentin doesn't have time to be distraught however. He has new friends to make....

The dragonmare hadn't meant to sneak up on him not really - she was not in the hunting mode, and she would never prey upon another equine/unicorn/pegasus soul. Meat was something she only occasionally felt the urge to consume - Dramyrth, of course, survived solely upon it, and enjoyed nothing more than partaking in the hunt with his bonded. But that was neither here nor there, for they were not here to eat, but to live, to socialise, to learn and meet and greet others. Amaris winced as the stallion nearly jumped out of his skin, prepared to flee the situation should he become defensive or hostile - however, he was anything but those things.

Quentin might have been surprised, but not nearly as much as Amaris was at the warm reception to her presence. The dragonmare was so used to being stared at with scorn and pre-judgement - to be welcomed so readily with a smile and kind exclamation was something she had not been expecting, and yet, she welcomed it wholeheartedly. A warm smile softened the scaled edges of her façade, as she purred in response, "I am Amaris, and that is Dramyrth."

She indicated her golden companion, but did not mention the curious little black soul who blended with his surroundings so well. He was like a shadow-spirit, dark and unnoticeable, observing quietly from the shadows cast by Amaris' own body. It was then that she heard a song being sung, and she turned her crown and sought out the source, curious as to the cause of the musical tune. Amusement glittered behind her eyes as this new young belle arrived and stumbled over her astonishment, seemingly at both Amaris and Quentin's existence. "Hello," she purred softly, kindly, in response to Maude's introduction. "I am Amaris," she repeated, not bothering to introduce Dramyrth again for the time being (he was busily preening himself in front of Quentin anyway).

"It is a pleasure to meet you both," she added in her soft, musical voice, her draconic lilt adding an exotic flavour to her simple words. "I've only just returned to Helovia from a recent trip - tell me; how does one stay cool in TallSun these days?"

The fairy is called Quentin, she absorbs with a coy giggle, and wide smile, her excited bashfulness slowly flaking away the more and more evident it becomes that the stallion is as delighted to meet her as she is him. Meeting his eyes, so warm and wonderful, the girl wonders why it is she has never met someone quite like him before now. What a shame, that was! She thinks, her small hooves dancing beneath her, despite her best attempts to be ladylike. She was only a filly still, after all.

"Oh, it’s a pleasure to meet you too, Sir Quentin!" she beams, curtsying as the colorful man does so, her layered cloak rippling down over her shoulders, and kissing the grasses below. With her eyes landing on the splendid gold dragon stretching its wings and arching its neck for display, her gaze flutters up towards the frighteningly beautiful dragon woman. Her scaled face was severe, and the barbs along her body all the more scary, but there was something in the softness of her voice, and the kindness in her eyes, that left Maude feeling enthralled, rather than truly afraid.

The scene is so splendid that the child wants to dance and sing, to streak across the meadow with her new friends, trilling their hopes and love to the sky. Her new friends, however, are adults, and the girl has lived long enough to know that most grown ups stopped frolicking at some point in their lives (and that not a one of them can define exactly when or why they decided to become so serious, but that she’d understand some day). So, instead, she dances in place, her mind already working the words and rhythm to a rather dramatic song about the afternoon that she had parlayed with magical beasts beneath the Tallsun skies.

"There is a river, not far!" cheerfully shares the damsel, though, surely, Amaris knows about the largest river in Helovia, by now, "and the groves nearby might have apples in them, if the deer haven’t found a way to them yet. They’ll be tart, but they’re almost better that way, I think."

Glancing out towards the last place she’d seen round fruits high overhead, she wonders how much closer she is now than she had been last year, when she, Katua, and Zubari had snuck away to investigate the nearby wild lands. It had taken all they’d had to knock a few loose to snack on. She bets she could actually grab one, now!

"Then of course, there is home," she smiles, in a dreamy sort of way, the sort of expression that reads how very much she loves the World’s Edge, and how it has never offered her anything but hope, love, and warmth for her loyalty; how she expects her new friends to have a home, too, not quite understanding that, for many, there is no home to go to, "the World’s Edge is always cool, probably ‘cause the Goddess of the Moon likes it that way, being the Night Goddess and all. Where do you guys live?"

Quentin was more than pleased that this meeting was going over well. It had been forever and a day (so it seemed), since he'd last been able to speak to a visible and very much real being. He quite enjoyed it. Besides, how could one not enjoy the company of such lovely ladies? Sure, he was lovely himself. Quentin was more than aware of that fact. He thrived on it actually. The stallion's wings fluttered at the thought of himself, which was something they often did when he was pleased or excited about something.

Amaris continued the conversation, moving it on to the current heat. Ugh, yes. “It's been awhile since I've been in the area, myself.” His face turns thoughtful as he ponders the things he liked to do when he was here before. Well...really he'd only ever flirted with whatever equine he came across. Male or female, even though he heavily preferred the male, one was always going to receive Quentin's flirtatious comments and compliments. Despite his preferences, Q could easily appreciate a nice looking lady just as well as he could a handsome stud.

The young filly brings his wandering mind back to the conversation at hand as she answers the dragon lady's question. Hmm. He wasn't feeling open to getting wet (in the literal sense), nor was he feeling peckish. Maude then goes on to speak of the Edge. The fairy snorts at this, remembering his brief stint at herd life. “You don't miss it.” Ah, what a perfect time to come back. Not. The stud's pale ears flop sideways in annoyance, his teal mane hiding them from view.

Shaking his skull, Quentin turns his bright blue eyes on the antlered youngster. “I'm glad the Edge is treating you well. I can't say I was ever treated poorly while I was there.” He chuckles, the action not quite meeting his eyes. “As of now, I'm just wandering around. Not quite ready to settle down yet.” He winks playfully in Amaris' direction, quite sure that the older mare was more likely to get the joke. Maude seemed a little too innocent, to naive. He hoped she would enjoy that innocence while she could. One never knew when it could be stolen from them....

Liquid gold seemed to shimmer in the eyes of the dragonmare as the simple joy of being so easily accepted into a conversation, a gathering, an impromptu and delightful meeting settled across her façade. Dramyrth, quite pleased with himself and the admiration he was receiving, took to the air again amidst the conversing, content to go frolic with the little black soul that was lingering beneath Amaris' limbs - the little black dragon spirit took off like a small shadow, a forgotten memory, a smudge against the sky above. The golden king accepted the company of the black purely because of the pleasant mood he was in - normally, he might have huffed fire and ice at it until it winked out of existence once more.

Amaris listened to the conversation, affection for the young, carefree filly blossoming as she spoke of rivers and groves and apples - it sounded a pleasant idea, if only to pass the time of the day away. She mentioned the Edge, her home, and with joy the dragonmare was able to have the knowledge that she shared something in common with the girl, that she might even have forged a friendship on this day.

Quentin joined in, his voice also revealing a similar story to the dragonmare's, though she quirked a brow upwards, as if silently asking why he had been absent recently, but she did not really expect an explanation from a perfect stranger. Then he spoke of having lived at the Edge in the past - and again, Amaris is struck at the similarity of their pasts -- was he lost in a time slip too? -- but she is distracted from this thought by his playful wink and colourful words. Settle down? It actually took the dragonmare a second to process the words, the meaning, the allusion he was making. Once realisation settled, she smiled a wry grin, knowing it was what was expected of her - in honest truth, she had not thought of 'settling down', whatever that entailed or meant.

Younglings, Dramyrth offered, laughter in his tones as he 'helped' explain the situation to Amaris, offering colourful visualisations in her head of him chasing down female dragons in heat and.. Well. I get the picture, she retorted to her dragon sharply, but I do not believe that is all he meant.

"I was born in the Edge," she offered, turning to Maude with a bright smile, "though the years have taken me away from there, I have recently sought to call its misty woods my home once more. I do hope we see more of each other there," she said with an earnest honesty, a genuine sheen of hope glimmering upon her countenance.

"Herd life is not for everyone," she conceded gently, smiling again at Quentin, "but I do find it comforting to have a place to return to at the end of a day's adventure." It was a simple statement, not intended as a jab at Quentin's choice of outcast lifestyle, just a comment on the mare's current preferences. Shuffling the leathery wings that hung at her side, Amaris peered about, testing the air with her nostrils, as if trying to find something.

"Hmm," she hummed, as if thinking of something fantastic. With a devious smirk curling her lips, the dragonmare extended a great golden wing over to the yearling filly, aiming to touch it gently upon the girl's back. With nape arched and a playfulness entering her posture, the dragonmare than leaned forward, to whisper conspiratorially into Maude's copper-kissed ears: "Tag! You're it!"

A colourful laugh tumbled across golden lips as the dragonmare promptly leapt away from the duo, wings flared, before turning sharply upon her hocks and pounding a speedy canter in the general direction of the river, her golden dragon and the black smudge of spirit frolicking still in the skies above her. What was a beautiful day without a game of tag anyway?

Having their attention was most wonderful, and the darling basks in their stories and focus just as any child does, when given the notice of their elders. Moving her softly smiling face from Quentin to Amaris in turn, her lips downturn, ever so slightly, when the fairy refuses to go to the Edge; why would he not want to go home? She wonders.

It was good enough for her, and the beautiful dragon woman, after all!

Thankfully, the regal dragoness knows more of the fae’s predicament than Maude does, and her words fill the void or otherwise replace the naïve remark that the filly would have made in regards to the frivolous man’s statement. She certainly does not comprehend that Quentin is flirting, either, but does smile with great amusement and release the smallest of giggles at his added flourish of a wink, finding it oddly charming.

Oh, of course!” chimes the child, smiling happily at Amaris, the corners of her eyes folding into what will, one day, long and far down the road of life, will hopefully be permanently etched there by a life of continued joy, “I’m almost always at the greenhouse. Maybe sometime you could come see the flowers and ferns I take care of there.

She’s going to continue on, chattering about the songs she’d written, and perhaps even sharing one, when her words are stolen by the touch of Amaris’ wing against her back, and her playful whisper, suddenly at her ear. Bounding with an abrupt burst of laughter, the girl quickly leaps after the dragoness, her cloak fluttering in the air as she gallops.

Hey!” breathlessly laughs the maiden as she chases her newfound friend through the meadow, glancing for Quentin as she runs (she’ll tag him, too, if he gives her the chance!), “I wasn’t ready!

He made notice of the dragon's questioning look as he mentioned he, too, had been absent from Helovia. Quentin was open about a great many things, but his sickness wasn't one of them. He gave the female a sly smirk and returned his attention to their other conversations. The voices in his head were his and his alone. “So protective of us....” He snorts, the sound barely audible as he winces. Always the vultures they were, sneaking into his head when he least expected them to.

Amaris speaks, the stallion shaking his pale head to better focus on what she's saying. Thankfully, she seems to be directing her words at the youngest of them. Hopefully neither had noticed his brief break from reality. She speaks of belonging to the Edge and Quentin is shocked to hear this. So it seems the three of them at least had this in common. What were the odds?

“Herd life is not for everyone.” He snorts at her words, noticing that they seemed to be directed to him. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy belonging to a herd. It was more of the fact that his voices didn't like the distraction of others. “We're your family.” Hmph. A shitty example of a family if you asked him. There was the sound of a scoff loudly echoing in his head as they backed off again. Good riddance.

Blinking hard, the stallion's attention is drawn to the youngest mare as she speaks of the Edge. Her words are stolen, however, when Amaris reaches out with her dragon-like wing and tags the youngster. And that's all it takes for the pair to go galloping through the meadow, giggling and chasing each other. “What just happened?” He snorted, almost in agreement with his unwanted guest.

Well, if you can't beat them, join them! The fairy stallion rears slightly onto his back legs before launching his muscular body forward. His wings flutter with excitement as he squeals, letting a buck loose from his body as he passes by the young mare, trying not to let her tag him in turn. Quentin allows a giggle to escape his own muzzle, catching up with Amaris. “Best idea ever!” He laughs, grinning widely at the dragon equine.

It isn't long before they near the river and Quentin skids to a halt. His eyes glaze over with a tinge of fear before he backs away from the river's grasp. Shaking his head, he laughs awkwardly, trying to play off the fear he'd just experienced. Trotting around the two mares, the stallion prances, arching his neck. “Catch me if you can!” His teal tail swishes around his rump as he watches with crystal eyes. “Come away little lamb, come away to the water....” Shaking his head, Quentin does his best to ignore the call.

He won't allow his past to ruin this moment. It's the first time in years that he's had even an ounce of fun. The river's grasp won't have the fairy stallion. Not today, anyway.

The dragonmare was glad for the reactions her action garnered, the laughter and delight she inspired, the pounding of hooves and whoops of glee as they all bounded across the meadow, aiming invariably towards the river that would wash the salty sweat from their hides and allow the nearly-absent breeze to cool them. It was a good way to disrupt the potential idleness of conversation, awkward silence, otherwise mundane moments that might blossom when the topic runs dry.

Golden flutes did not miss the words of Maude however; she fully intended to seek the girl out at a later date, to learn more about her, to befriend her (if Maude would have her) - she was excited by this prospect, and let that excitement be the energy in her bouncy step, her smile, her musical, draconic song-like laughter. Dramyrth, mostly on high with her emotions, chortled happily from above, carving an exciting, speedy, curving pattern through his bonded's legs as she ran, daring to dart about the racing forms of Quentin and Maude as well, adding to the chaos, the buzz, the adventure of it all.

The stallion reaches the river's edge first, Amaris had not been seeking to 'win' or race or even compete really, mostly she wanted to move, to dance, and play and interact on a different level with these newfound comrades. But the fairy-winged steed did not take a step or a leap into the liquid, instead throwing his crown playfully and jeering at the mare and filly. Amaris does not question it - not everyone necessarily felt like a swim - but it wouldn't stop her from spreading her wings (mostly for effect than actual use) and leaping into the shallows of the riverbed with a mighty splash!, before continuing to canter on through it, her aim very clearly to ensure all parties received a dosing of water on their hides as she went past.

Laughing all the while, the dragonmare heard the stallion's challenge then, and she looked conspiratorially to Maude - would the filly work alongside the mare to meet this stallion's challenge, to capture him and win this game they had created? Dramyrth, dunking himself happily in the deeper part of the river, rose once more to the air, sprinkling waterdrops everywhere he went (quite intentionally) as he did so. "Follow Dramyrth!" Amaris tried to communicate to Maude, verbally and with the tilting of her crown to the dragon who sped out over onto the land once more, moving to go on the other side of the stallion.

Amaris wanted to win, now that there was a definitive challenge set down by the stallion. Dramyrth flew round, aiming to place himself between the stallion and the reach of the meadow, so that the fairy-steed would need to place himself either in the shallows of the water (or very near) to pass him (and hopefully Maude, if the girl had deigned to follow his lead). The dragonmare accelerated her pace to then come up the very shallows of the river, hoping the stallion would still be hesitating to enter them and thereby essentially 'caught', stationary, allowing her to tap a wing down upon his rump on her way past.

If Amaris had known the intricacies of Quentin's mind, she would never have used the river to try and capture him - as it was, the dragonmare was just that, part dragon, part predator; it was, if anything, primary nature of hers to plot out an ambush to catch her 'prey'.

Though she tries to brush her muzzle upon Quentin’s flank, the fairy is far too fast – as a fairy should be! With a breathless giggle, she presses her legs to move swifter, her lungs drawing more deeply upon the warm air as she dashes across the field with her new friends. Though they were older than her, it did not seem to matter, while they played; caught in a capricious moment, the three weave together with shouts of joy and happy laughter trailing in their wake, and Maude is so happy that she forgets to be upset that she’s been It all this time, when the river comes into view.

Amaris almost propels herself into the water with her wings wide as the come upon it, forcing a cascade of droplets up and over the filly’s head, before falling as a most delightful rain; the smiling maiden prances to a stop along the river’s shore, to bundle her cloak up over her shoulder in a loose knot, before joining Amaris. It’s uncomfortable against her shoulder for only as long as it takes to forget it’s there or different at all, and she drops her muzzle to steal drinks as she prances and relishes the cool water as it splashes up against her belly and ripples about her knees. She glances back up at Quentin with a broad smile in place and her creamy locks dripping from where the tips had rode abreast the water. Her smile falls, however, when she takes note of his hesitation to enter the sparkling ribbon of refreshment.

It’s not long lived, however, for with another challenge called to the air (inverse tag, she would call it, if asked) the fairy gentleman is cantering away from the shore. Looking at the dragon-mare with wide eyes of surprise, she nods with a bemused smile, and does exactly as Amaris says.

"You bet I can!" she calls after him with a giggle, her cloak unfurling from her loose shoulder knot as she half-rears and leaps out of the water in pursuit, her ginger muzzle tossing in abandon.

Galloping after Dramyrth’s golden gleam, the maiden smiles, but a small part of her wonders if, maybe, Quentin is afraid of the water for some reason. She, herself, certainly isn’t, but she also doesn’t have such delicate wings, like the bugs she fishes from the top of her watering can in the mornings, before she sets to work. Still, it’s all too fun for her to bring it up; besides, Amaris is a grown-up! Surely she knows best, right?
